How to Form a New Habit Overnight and Apply It to Your Relationship

When the vet told me to put an ice pack on Menace's leg 15-20 minutes morning and evening for the first week after surgery, there was no doubt in my mind that I would do it. There was no mind drama or feelings of "uughhhhh do I have to?".

But when it comes to some other habits that I want to implement, I can't keep it up for more than a day or two before my mind starts arguing with me, telling me it's not a good idea.

So why are some habits so much easier to form than others? Why can we literally form a new habit as soon as a vet tells us instructions, but we can't do the same to ourselves?
